Heartwarming Memorial Day Honor Stuns the Nation – After 73 Years, This Hero Is Finally Home

What’s Happening:

Memorial Day is a special time when Americans remember those who died to protect our liberties. Men and women of the Armed Forces traveled across the globe to defend freedom against tyranny. In each generation, there are stories of brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice, so others could be free.

One of them was U.S. Army Cpl. Luther Herschel Story. This young American went to Korea when he was 18 to fight against the rising tide of communism. He gave his life to defend South Korea, which earned him a Medal of Honor. But his remains were lost for 73 years. Until now.

From Fox News:

Cpl. Story earned the Medal of Honor for his ferocious last stand in the turning-point battle of the Korean War. He saved lives among his retreating company…

Remains at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, were determined through DNA research by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) to be those of the teenage war hero of two nations…

Cpl. Story will be buried Monday, Memorial Day, with full military honors at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Thanks to work at the National Memorial Cemetery in Hawaii, DNA testing was able to identify the remains of this Medal of Honor hero. Cpl. Story’s body was transported to his surviving niece, Judy Wade.

The American soldier will be laid to final rest at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors. That means the United States military will be on hand to honor this man, who gave his life at such a young age.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of Cpl. Story, not only were lives saved but the nation of South Korea was spared the scourge of communism. North Korea has been under the tyrannical grip of one family for over 75 years. North Korea suffers from brutality, poverty, and oppression.

But South Korea, like the U.S., is a constitutional republic that enjoys liberty, prosperity, and a bright future. That would not have been possible, without men like Cpl. Story.

After years of uncertainty, his family now has the peace of knowing his remains will be honored and laid to rest back in the USA.

Key Takeaways:

  • A Medal of Honor recipient’s remains were discovered after 73 years.
  • Cpl. Story died during the Korean War; recently his remains were identified using DNA testing.
  • He will be laid to final rest at Andersonville National Cemetery, with full honors.
