During this crisis, some states have stricter mandates than others.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Democrat-run states seem to have more draconian guidelines than other states … and that includes California.
Right now, many businesses remain closed in the Golden State, due to a direct order from Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom.
However, he might’ve just made a big mistake…
It began when KGO asked Newsom why nail salons wouldn’t be allowed to reopen during Phase 2 of the state’s plan (right now, they have to wait until Phase 3).
That’s when the governor made a statement he may not be able to prove:
This whole thing started in the state of California, the first community spread, in a nail salon.
That didn’t go over well with nail salon owners, as you might expect.
Can Newsom provide proof that the first case of coronavirus was due to a nail salon…? That seems highly doubtful.
Hair salons and barbershops, which also can’t reopen in Phase 2, are also seriously annoyed.
And as a result:
This brought in an association of barber shops and salons, which said it would try to sue to attempt to force the California Democrat to let them reopen sooner.
It’s not like these salon owners are ignoring the situation, either. They plan to be cautious; they just want to get back to work.
For example, public policy director for the Professional Beauty Federation of California Fred Jones said:
I have dealt at a very close proximity with cashiers, with Walmart associates, with Costco and Sam’s Club associates, with a Home Depot guy who helped me cut some wood. None of them had gloves; only some of them had masks.
There’s not going to be a salon in California, when we reopen, that doesn’t have both. We are trained in this.
The lawsuit will take some time, but many salon owners aren’t waiting.
Some have already reopened despite Newsom’s order: one Yuba City salon opened last week and they had a line out the door!
In fact, there are 33 salons “operating illegally” in the state, according to the governor.
Yeah, well, they’re just trying to survive, Newsom. And they’re in dire straits, which is why you’re now facing a big lawsuit.
He might not be the only governor to face a lawsuit in the coming weeks, either!
