After GOP Pushes to Crown Trump Winner – Donald Surprises Party with This Response

Donald Trump has won the first two states in the GOP primary race. His last rival is Nikki Haley. Polls suggest she is unlikely to win enough delegates to overcome Trump’s lead.

But, there are still many states up for grabs. And Trump, at the moment, is far from the 1,215 delegates needed. There is a chance Haley can gain steam and beat him before the race is done.

Despite this, some within the GOP are pushing to end the primaries here and now. They want the party to crown Trump the nominee before every vote is cast. That might be something Trump wants, right? This is how he responded.

From Fox News:
Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that he does not support efforts to pressure the Republican National Committee into declaring him a “presumptive nominee.”…

“While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX,” Trump wrote.

Trump rejected calls for the RNC to make him the presumptive nominee. Instead, he said that it should be done the “Old Fashioned” way and finish the process at the ballot box.

Some might have expected Trump to demand this himself. He has been leading in the polls for months, now. He refused to attend the GOP debates. At one point, he even demanded the party to cancel all the debates, so they could use their resources to unite and defeat Joe Biden.

But now, with primary voting kicking off in the coming weeks, he is refusing to deny voters their chance to make their voices heard.

This appears to be a wise decision by Trump. Had he demanded the party make him the nominee, there’d no doubt be endless claims by the left that he was “undermining” the democratic process.

Already, Joe Biden and most Democrats accuse Trump of being a “threat to democracy.” While their claims ring hollow, given Biden’s own actions, they would only bang that drum louder, if Trump supported this move.

Odds are, Trump would be better off winning the primary through votes, than if the party just gave it to him. Trump would use his decisive victory at the ballot box to claim he is the president Americans want. That could only help him, going into the general election.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump rejected calls by some for the RNC to make him the “presumptive nominee.”
  • The former president said he wanted to win the “Old Fashioned” way at the ballot box.
  • This comes as many Democrats claim Trump is a “threat to democracy.”
