GOP 2024 Candidate’s New Ratings Are In – Somehow He’s More Popular with Dems Than His Own Party

What’s Happening:

There has been an unexpected spike in support for one Republican presidential candidate. He has gained notable numbers among voters who see him as a “positive light.” You would think that’s not a bad polling result for a candidate this early in the 2024 race, but for this guy it’s a disaster.

The wave of newfound favorability places former New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie firmly in the spotlight among likely voters. The only problem for Christie is the results come from the wrong side of the aisle to get him elected.

From Fox News:

When asked how much they favor Christie as a presidential primary candidate, 32% of Democrats stated in a Quinnipiac University survey that they view the former governor in a positive light. Only 17% of Republicans had a favorable view of Christie.

Whatever campaign manager Christie has for branding him among GOP voters is likely going to be searching for a new job. This is an identity crisis for Christie. How does a presidential candidate fail so badly this early that the opposition party wants him more than his own party?

Christie and his team may try to twist this poll to say he can win more votes in the general election but has little to no chance of winning the GOP primary race. Christie has attacked the dominate frontrunner, Donald Trump, and called him everything from a child to a liar. It’s surprising Christie received 17% Republican support in the Quinnipiac survey.

Christie has been feuding with Trump since before this election season kicked off. He wants to take on Trump in the Republican primary debate next week, but Trump may not give him the chance. Christie laid out a challenge to Trump last week.

“You’re such a big guy, such a tough guy, so full of it,” Christie said. “You want me? I’ll be on the stage in Milwaukee… I’ll be there waiting for you.”

Tough talk for a candidate polling so low in the primary field. Maybe Christie can stump a little more in Democrat strongholds and boost his “positive” rating. We suspect he may not hold up well against surging GOP contenders next week. The solid field of candidates may get Christie frothing at the mouth as they point out his many controversies as New Jersey governor.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Trump walked on the stage last minute and never even acknowledged Christie? That Jersey boy, who once championed Trump as president, would lose his cool “bigly.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Republican presidential candidate sees surge in “positive” poll numbers.
  • The problem is that voters who like him most aren’t in his party.
  • Chris Christie faces identity crisis as he calls out Trump before debate.
