CORRECTION: This story’s original headline referred to Goodyear’s zero-tolerance policy as “banning MAGA hats.” It has been updated to reflect Goodyear’s broad policy against political messaging.
Like other companies before them, tire maker Goodyear is facing heat for becoming “woke.”
Someone released an image from the company’s “diversity training.” It revealed what messages they allow and do not allow their employees to share:
Apparently, the company allows workers to wear gay and BLM-themed garments but forbids MAGA clothing.
Trump fired back with a stern call to action:
Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning, adding in parentheses, “This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!
President Trump called on Americans to no longer purchase Goodyear tires, after it was revealed they discriminate against Trump supporters.
Trump mentioned how common it is for the left to boycott companies they don’t like over politics. He said, “two can play the same game.”
In the past, Media Matters and other liberal groups have targeted companies for supporting conservative issues. For years, liberals have boycotted Chic-Fil-a. The company has gone on to become the 3rd largest chain restaurant in the country.
He encouraged his supporters to get better tires “for far less,” though he did not endorse another brand.
In response to Trump’s tweet—and the overall backlash online, Goodyear hastily put out a response, claiming the image was not from corporate’s official training.
They also said they welcome all views—and showed their support for police. But they also said political discussion among employees is not allowed.
So, why did at least one Goodyear location say it was okay for workers to wear and express support for political group Black Lives Matter? Why is it okay for other employees to express their views on LGBT issues, which often skew political?
And why can’t Trump-supporting employees wear MAGA caps or shirts? Especially in red states, where customers would love to see their Goodyear mechanics sporting Trump colors.
Regardless of what the corporate lawyers at Goodyear are saying, it’s clear some of their locations have a strong, left-wing bias.
Will their statement be enough to win back Trump supporters? Or will a boycott of Goodyear tires sweep through the country?
