After months of constant criticisms from both sides in New York, Andrew Cuomo’s Caesar-like reign might be coming to an end. His handle on elderly care has been one of his great downfalls.
After giving emergency powers to Governor Cuomo, New York saw him poorly mishandle their state when they needed help most. His actions may have led to many preventable losses.
Up until this point, we took New York’s data at face value, but a new report shows that the Governor might have fudged the numbers. An aide has admitted this was done to hide the numbers from the feds.
Now the Legislature of New York is fed up. Cuomo’s own Democrat colleagues are calling him out and demanding a repeal of his emergency powers.
From Fox News:
“Without exception, the New York State Constitution calls for the Legislature to govern as a co-equal branch of government. While COVID-19 has tested the limits of our people and state– and, early during the pandemic, required the government to restructure decision making to render rapid, necessary public health judgements– it is clear that the expanded emergency powers granted to the Governor are no longer appropriate,” a joint statement by the state Senators said.
The New York Health Department reported their numbers in late January. Their number of losses in eldercare facilities was close to 6,000. Meanwhile, the State Health Commissioner told us that number is closer to 15,000.
Cuomo can no longer hide his failure to protect the elderly in their time of need.
Fourteen of Cuomo’s New York Senate Democrats, along with the Republicans, have spoken out saying they no longer feel that the Governor should have expanded emergency powers. Thanks to Melissa DeRosa we can see why their trust is faltering in the Governor.
As a result, both sides are coming together to tell the Governor that enough is enough. His critics have created a measure to take away his emergency powers.
He can’t be trusted to protect New Yorkers. He can’t be trusted to tell the truth to his people.
If Cuomo can’t be trusted to do even those things, can we trust him to run a state like New York?
- 14 State Senate Democrats are in favor to take away Cuomo’s emergency powers.
- The State Health Commissioner reveals less than 50% of the losses in eldercare facilities were accurately reported.
