Feds Catch Planned Parenthood Affiliates – They Improperly Received $80M, Now The Feds Are Demanding It Back

What’s Happening:

Thirty-seven affiliates of Planned Parenthood successfully applied for funds through the Paycheck Protection Program. They received $80 million from a program designed to aid small businesses suffering from the pandemic.

These affiliates were not qualified to receive loans through the PPP, due to a restriction. Organizations with more than 500 employees could not apply to the program. Despite their ineligibility, these affiliates applied and were approved.

Thirty-seven Planned Parenthood affiliates applied for and received a total of $80 million in loans from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” has learned — and now the federal government wants the money back, saying the affiliates should have known they weren’t eligible for the coronavirus stimulus payouts.

Why It’s Important:

Numerous large companies and organizations have been able to receive funds from the PPP, amounting to millions. That includes restaurant chains, Planned Parenthood, and Harvard University. Several groups have returned the money, but not these affiliates.

Despite receiving some government funding already, these Planned Parenthood affiliates enrolled in this program. Now, the federal government wants the money back, with one senator demanding an investigation into how the Paycheck Protection Program is being run.

A bill passed by House Democrats would provide an additional $3 trillion “COVID-19 relief” funding. This bill removes restrictions, allowing Planned Parenthood to apply for support.

Key Takeaways:

  • Affiliates of government-funded Planned Parenthood took $80 million from the PPP
  • Despite ineligibility, they were given money meant for small businesses (with under 500 workers)
  • The federal government is demanding the money back, with calls for an investigation
