The Democratic stronghold of the New York/New Jersey region is facing a wave of scandal and crime. Recently, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was convicted on federal bribery charges. He faces years in prison and was forced to resign from the Senate. But he is far from the only East Coast Democrat in hot water.
The Feds opened an investigation into New York Mayor Eric Adams’ possible connection to foreign entities. They even raided the home of one of his top aides, Winnie Greco.
She was at least the third person connected to the mayor to be targeted by the FBI. But that is only the beginning. Because yet another high-profile New York Democrat finds herself in the FBI’s crosshairs. Because this week, one of the governor’s close associates had her swanky home visited by an FBI team.
From The Blaze:
Earlier Tuesday morning, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the Long Island home of a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D), the New York Times reported.Linda Sun’s five-bedroom, $3.5 million residence, which she shares with her husband, Chris Hu, is located in the gated community of North Shore…
A spokesperson for the FBI told the Times that its New York office “conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity” at Sun’s home before dawn on Tuesday.
Startling High-Profile Raid
Early in the morning, the FBI raided the home of Linda Sun, a former official for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration. Sun served as Hochul’s deputy chief of staff for a year. Before that, she was the deputy superintendent for intergovernmental affairs and chief diversity officer under disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The federal officers searched the $3.5 million home, which resides in the exclusive neighborhood of North Shore.
The agency is being tight-lipped about the raid. But we do know that it was authorized by the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s Office, which secured the warrant. At this time, no arrests have been made. But the news will certainly worry the governor’s office, which is probably already being questioned by the FBI.
Connected to Other Scandals?
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing increasing scrutiny from the federal government. Accusations have cropped up against him. Sources claim his administration received money from Turkish figures, in exchange for favors. The scandal is reminiscent of New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’, who was convicted of doing much the same with an Egyptian official. Three of Adams’ aides have been raided by the FBI.
Could this latest raid be related? It is unknown if Sun is in any way connected to the mayor’s office. But New York government is a small community, and state Democrats tend to help each other out. It could be that the Sun residence had evidence that would help the Feds investigate this sprawling scandal.
Turning the Heat Up
Mayor Adams have refused to admit if he committed a crime. But the federal probe is ongoing, and a grand jury is reviewing evidence. It is difficult to believe that this latest raid is just a coincidence. Could the Feds be ready to indict the progressive mayor over a shocking crime? And if so, how will this affect Democrats in the state?
Key Takeaways:
- The FBI raided the home of a former aide to New York Governor Hochul.
- Agents raided the $3.5 million home of Linda Sun, former deputy chief of staff for the governor.
- This comes as the FBI continues a probe against New York Mayor Eric Adams, who has been accused of accepting illegal campaign donations.
