Almost from the start, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s pandemic actions were called into question. Many NY residents pushed back against his strict lockdown orders, for example.
But his most controversial move involved nursing homes in the state, and that topic has once again boiled over. Cuomo has defended his decision many times but now he faces a new problem:
The FBI just got involved.
For months, lawmakers and politicians have been calling for an investigation into Cuomo’s nursing home policies. Many claim his decision unnecessarily cost New York a great many lives.
The Cuomo administration opted to send infected patients into nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, and this could’ve led to fresh surges.
Well, those who have demanded an official investigation into this mess just got their wish. So now, Cuomo and his team will have much tougher questions to answer.
Via The Daily Wire:
New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo is under investigation by the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, as well as the FBI, for his administration’s decision to send recovering coronavirus patients into nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, local New York media reported Wednesday night.
The investigation just launched and is still in the “early stages,” according to the Albany Times-Union.
But it’s definitely pushing forward, and they’re currently “focusing on the work of some of the senior members of the governor’s task force.” And presumably, they’ll reach Cuomo himself at some point.
When the epidemic began last March, the governor assigned 13 members to a virus task force. Apparently, these members will be the first the FBI puts under the microscope.
This investigation has been a long time coming, though, and Cuomo’s administration isn’t surprised.
One of his senior aides, Richard Azzopardi, said they knew the DOJ had been looking into the situation for months. He also said they’ve cooperated with the DOJ and “will continue to do so.”
The nursing home issue gained headlines again last week, when Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa attended a closed-door meeting with Democrats and other lawmakers.
There, she allegedly said Cuomo’s administration “withheld” vital pandemic statistics from the federal government.
She said the team “froze” and was unsure of what they were going to give the DOJ, because they worried the info would be used against them in an investigation.
Well, that investigation is here, and there’s no stopping it now. And whatever the FBI and DOJ find, there’s no doubt that the infamous nursing home fiasco will continue to haunt Cuomo.
- The FBI has kicked off an official investigation into New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration.
- They’re looking into Cuomo’s controversial nursing home order during the pandemic.
