Elon Musk Reveals New Twitter Logo, Name Change – And It Sends the Internet into Meltdown Mode

What’s Happening:

“X” marks the spot for Elon Musk.

Or the point of no return for Musk’s strong-willed desire to transform his social media company. His latest change to the company previously known as Twitter sent the internet into an uproar. The bird has flown the coop and has been replaced by the “X” logo.

The billionaire formerly known as the “Chief Twit” is now the head of “X Corp.” The branding move caught the world by surprise as Musk launched into a new direction that brought out strong opinions for and against the move.

From Fox Business:

Early Monday morning, Twitter owner Elon Musk formally changed the iconic blue bird logo on the social media platform to a new black-and-white “X,” which he revealed the day before.

X Corp continued its branding change by displaying the new “X” logo on the outside of the company headquarters building in San Francisco. The official account for the social media company and its website both display the name “X.”

This branding change has caused an internet meltdown. People are tweeting (is it still tweeting or X-ing?) strong opinions for and against the change.

Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.

Linda Yaccarino, now the CEO of X Corp, of course jumped out in support of the move with her tweet:

“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

Others weren’t so pleased:

“He’s scaling new heights of dumb. This is yet more of Musk’s astonishment that no one will just follow his orders and give him money,” tweeted Tom Nichols, staff writer at The Atlantic.

“It’s official. Twitter as a brand is dead. By suicide,” tweeted Christian Christensen, an American professor at a foreign university.

Lover it or leave it, X Corp is still a central part of worldwide public discussion and people might want to reconsider counting Musk and his ideas down for the count. He isn’t done with changes to the X Corp platform and is working on ways to x out blue bird symbolism.

From Fox Business:

Over the weekend, Musk confirmed he wanted to move away from the light blue aesthetic in pursuit of a black-and-white themed platform. He also said he wanted to gradually get rid of “all the birds.”

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” he tweeted just after midnight Sunday.

Time will tell whether the swift and widespread changes Musk has made to the platform over the last year will sink X Corp or propel it to new heights. Since the company is now a private business, any losses in revenue or valuation are only affecting numbers on an accounting log. He has no accountability to any shareholders.

This branding change that ends the age of the blue birds may just be the “X factor” that sparks a new level of interest and activity for more profitability. X Corp might just be the “everything app” Musk pursues. Who really wants to bet against this “X” man?

Key Takeaways:

  • Elon Musk x-ed out the Twitter logo and rebranded the company.
  • X Corp new “X” logo revealed at company headquarters.
  • Critics tweet strong opinions about the new logo and branding.
