After Tesla CEO Defies California Order – President Trump Takes Sides, Backs Up Elon Musk

What’s Happening:

As California gradually begins to lift their stay-at-home orders, certain counties continue to restrict business. An interim official from Alameda Country refused to give Telsa Motors the “green light” last Friday, despite the governor’s latest order.

Owner Elon Musk called this the “last straw.” His company sued the state as he vowed to move his HQ and operations to either Nevada or Texas. Later, Musk reopened his factory in defiance of the county orders, stating he was willing to go to jail.

And now, President Trump has weighed in on the matter on Twitter:

California should let Tesla & @elonmusk open the plant, NOW. It can be done Fast & Safely!

Why It’s Important:

Numerous states have begun the journey back to normal. As early as April, some states began reopening local businesses, parks, and other facilities.

Meanwhile, many blue states have extended stay-at-home orders, sparking unrest and even lawsuits. California businesses are accusing the government of moving too slow, bring greater damage to the local economy.

Elon Musk’s Tesla is a multi-billion-dollar business, shut down due to virus-related orders. His act of defiance in reopening his company could spark greater resistance across the liberal-run state. The president’s contribution will likely intensify the situation, as his vocal supporters defend and support Tesla and other businesses.

It could result in a faster reopening of CA and other blue states.

Key Takeaways:

  • Elon Musk is defying CA county orders to keep his company closed.
  • President Trump defended Tesla, saying the plant should reopen.
  • The situation could speed up reopening efforts, as more Americans speak out.
