Alan Dershowitz is about as honest a liberal as they come. Just because he’s left of center, doesn’t mean he’s going to ignore the facts.
He upholds the Constitution, despite what the Democrats say. And he has been against the impeachment of Trump—insisting there is little to no evidence to condemn him.
Dershowitz also criticized Trump’s new lawyer, over his performance on the first day of the trial.
But now, he’s saying the Democrats are playing right into Trump’s hands.

“Today was the best day for former President Trump. The Democrats are playing right into hands of the argument that Trump is going to be making about the First Amendment…”- @AlanDersh on the second day of the Democrats’ sham impeachment.
Dershowitz slammed the Democrats’ arguments against Donald Trump, saying they are playing right into his hands.
Trump’s legal team is making the case that the left is trying to erode Trump’s First Amendment rights. They are impeaching him over a speech, a standard that would implicate every politician who has ever run.
Dershowitz explains that the left’s current arguments only uphold what Trump’s legal team is saying.
Democrats’ entire attack is that Trump “incited” an upheaval, because of his views on the election.
Constitutional expert Dershowitz further explained that Free Speech protects this. Just because something may or may not be accurate does not invalidate our free speech rights.
Opinion, he also said, is also protected by the First Amendment.
Democrats want Trump convicted for stating his belief and opinions about the results of the election, and they want to blame him for everything that happened afterward.
His lawyers are claiming Trump has the right to express them because the First Amendment says so.
It seems the left is trying to use this impeachment trial to set a precedent against free speech. If they can convict Trump over his words, then they can continue doing that to everyone else.
Social networks can be justified for banning people over “unacceptable speech.” Who knows how far it will go?
Will courts decided our speech is no longer free, because it is opinion or contradictory to what liberals say?
Dershowitz is confident enough lawmakers in the Senate will disagree and vote to acquit Trump.
- Alan Dershowitz, a Constitutional lawyer, has claimed Democrats are playing right into Trump’s hands.
- Their case against him infringes on his free speech, giving Trump’s defense ample ammo to fire back.
- The First Amendment protects all speech, even inaccurate statements and opinion.
