Democrats in D.C. are trying to make the events of January 6 carry long-term consequences. And they are starting first with those involved. While Pelosi pushes her “commission,” courts are charging Americans with various crimes.
It looks like Capitol Police are throwing the book at people connected to the events of the day. Many of them are reportedly Trump supporters—a fact which Democrats have used to slander the 45th president and many other Americans.
But one legal expert is unloading some accusations against the police. He is saying they are overcharging those they arrested.
Constitutional expert attorney Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax Tuesday that police “overcharged” those involved in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, while many municipalities dismissed, or gave misdemeanor charges to Black Lives Matter and antifa protesters during the summer…
“I know that people have been charged with felonies for merely trespassing and you can’t say that they obstructed Congress if they engaged in peaceful protests, even if it involves trespassing.”
Alan Dershowitz is accusing the police of hitting people arrested over January 6 with heavier charges than necessary. Dershowitz claims that most of the people involved were simply peacefully protesting. Yet they could face years in jail.
Meanwhile, courts have dismissed or gave out small charges to people who rioted across the nation over last summer.
What is the difference between these two groups? Nothing much… except one of the groups is made up of conservative Trump supporters.
It seems Dershowitz is making the case that, because these people are on the right, the D.C.-area police force is going harder on them. If that’s true, it carries serious repercussions for our future.
Americans are innocent until proven guilty. The Constitution provides us with a fair trial before a jury of our peers. But if police are going harder on people because of their political association, where is the justice?
We can spend all day analyzing what these people did or did not do. But they deserve a fair day in court. If police are “overcharging” people, simply because they supported Donald Trump, they are making Americans political criminals.
And that does not sit well with a constitutional expert like Dershowitz.
As it turns out, he is representing at least one man being charged. Hopefully, he can use his wealth of knowledge and reason to defend his client. But the rest of these Trump supporters might not be as lucky.
- Constitutional expert Alan Dershowitz is accusing Capitol Police of overcharging Trump supporters.
- He says they are hitting these protesters with harder charges, than BLM rioters.
- This comes as Democrats try to use January 6th to push their political agenda.
