Democrats working together with Republicans to get something done in Congress is akin to cats and dogs living in harmony. Such relationships are rare if they even exist.
Several dozen Democrats surprised everyone in helping Republicans pass an important piece of legislation in the House. The bipartisan effort was designed to hit hard against the D.C. swamp that works to undermine the rights of citizens.
Possibly the most historical political battle being fought right now is the one where leftists are trying to change the laws in an effort to help non-citizens. To stop the advancement of anti-Constitutional laws being passed by leftist government bodies, members of Congress must join together.
From Fox News:
The House of Representatives advanced a bill Thursday to repeal a Washington, D.C. law that allows non-citizens to vote in local elections.A whopping 52 Democrats joined Republicans on the measure, with 143 Democrats voting against it, for a final 262 to 143 vote.
The D.C. law was passed by the progressive city council in 2022 and recently survived a court challenge earlier this year.
Republicans have warned that allowing the D.C. law to stand could have negative effects on national security. Allowing non-Americans to be involved in deciding which local officials run the nation’s capital could be dangerous.
“What we’re doing is, we are talking about passing a law that prohibits citizens of foreign countries from voting in elections in D.C.,” said Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) during debate over the bill. “It prohibits people that are here illegally from voting in elections.”
Graves pointed out that the prohibition would include spies from China or infiltrators from Russia who have “wishes of ill” against the United States. Republicans have also exposed Democrats as attempting to tip the scales at the ballot box by encouraging illegal immigrants to sign up for voting. Leftists continue to claim that is not the case.
Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), who introduced the bill last year, highlighted the close margins that decided critical elections in recent years. He argued that allowing even the chance for undocumented people to vote could sway an entire race.
This bipartisan bill to eliminate non-citizens from voting is part of a larger fight for voting security that House Republican leaders have mounted heading into the November presidential election.
Key Takeaways:
- Democrats joined Republicans in an effort to stop non-citizen voting in Washington, D.C.
- Republicans warned that allowing non-citizens to vote could impact national elections.
