There’s a 2018 wave all right, and here’s the clearest evidence yet.

The Democrats are smugly proclaiming that the Blue Wave will sweep the country in November, but it’s not playing out like they claim.

Most recently, Texas Republican Pete Flores flipped a State Senate seat near San Antonio that has been held by Democrats for 139 years.

And the Left wants us to believe that they’re the ones who will turn seats blue? Please.

Now another state’s polls are shaking up political predictions and could be a bellwether of things to come.

Democrats exulted when U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced last year she was retiring. Because the Republican congresswoman’s district leans Democratic. One prominent Washington election watcher immediately labeled the race “lean Democratic.”

No longer.

On the heels of two internal polls Wednesday that showed Democratic nominee Donna Shalala either losing or nearly tied with GOP opponent Maria Elvira Salazar, the Washington non-partisan election handicapper, the Cook Political Report, moved the needle back to the middle to “toss-up.”

David Wasserman, who tracks House races for Cook and last week suggested that some Democrats were worried that Shalala had not pulled away, called it a “stunning turn” for a race that should be a “slam dunk” for Democrats.

The Florida district near Miami voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in 2016. Clinton beat Trump by 19 points.

And yet the Left can’t manage to keep this overwhelmingly Democratic district in their hands. There are several reasons for this.

One reason is the Democratic candidate herself. Shalala is 77, and can’t speak Spanish in the largely Hispanic district.

Her opponent, on the other hand, is a 56-year-old former reporter for Spanish television with both name and face recognition among Miami voters.

Many Democrats believed Salazar’s support for the President would put her at odds with the people she hopes to represent, but the confidence of the Left appears to be misplaced.

According to a poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, Salazar leads Shalala 51 percent to 42 percent.

Election watcher Wasserman believes the Democrats were too cocky in their belief that Trump’s “rampant unpopularity” in the district would lead Shalala to victory.

Ultimately the Left’s candidate is out of touch with the people she wants to represent, and her arrogance in assuming she will win is turning a lot of voters off.

Reminds me of a woman who ran for president once.
