President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats have been trying to get the latest stimulus package passed for weeks. The good news is that some Americans will finally get the aid Democrats promised.
The bad news is that, according to many lawmakers and politicos, the bill hides a serious amount of “pork.” Many have called out the billions spent on items unrelated to the pandemic.
On top of that, the package also seems to hold a big bonus for federal employees.
Critics are calling it “a personal bailout for bureaucrats,” and it’s buried within the “American Rescue Plan Act of 2021,” which passed through the House on Saturday.
It includes more paid time off for government employees, and at a higher rate of pay — something those who don’t work for any government certainly won’t receive.
Everyday citizens likely won’t be pleased to find such a generous provision for those who already have plenty of perks and bonuses.
As Forbes reported:
Under the bill as currently drafted, full-time federal employees can take up to 600 hours in paid leave until September 30, up to $35 an hour and $1,400 a week. That’s 15 weeks for a 40-hour employee.
Part-time and ‘seasonal’ employees are eligible, too, with equivalent hours established by their agency.
You might ask, “how can they pay for this, and where is the money coming from?”
Well, it’s apparently due to a new “family leave account” created only for federal employees. And this account holds a whopping $570 million to fund the provision.
As far as many struggling families are concerned, this reflects poorly on the Biden administration.
It sounds suspiciously like government employees are once again receiving preferential treatment, and for no other reason than the fact that they’re federal workers.
So while parents desperately attempt to juggle kids who remain home from school, and millions of others are out of work, the D.C. bureaucrats get more paid leave and more money.
Forbes notes that this provision is “buried” on page 305 of the House bill, and one wonders if they were hoping it would slip past unnoticed.
As lockdown critic Phil Keren posted on Twitter:
Wow. The BidenBucks bill pays federal employees up to 15 weeks of paid leave at $1400 per week if they have to stay home to virtual school kids.
You get $1400 once. They get it every week for 15 weeks. Swamp takes care of swamp.https://t.co/4A7ktpm1Zc

Ever since Joe Biden entered the White House, Republicans and Conservatives have blasted the new administration for being pro-big government.
And this revelation doesn’t help, because it’s only being stacked on top of the other Democrat- and federal-friendly items that keep popping up in the relief bill.
- A “hidden” provision in the new relief bill holds a special bonus for federal employees.
- There’s a $570M fund that will deliver up to 600 hours of paid leave through September 30, up to $35/hour and $1,400/week.
- This comes at a bad time for the Biden administration, which has already taken a lot of heat for appearing to put big government ahead of everyday citizens.
