For weeks, Democrats and the Biden administration have been pushing their new amnesty idea, which has become widely controversial.
They want to open a pathway for 11 million unregistered U.S. residents to become citizens. But it won’t be easy to pass.
That’s largely because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi might not have the support she needs.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) just sounded the alarm on the Democrat amnesty plan.
Most significantly, Durbin is responsible for gathering votes in the Senate, and he has an inside look at how voting shapes up.
In regards to the House, Durbin worries that Democrats just won’t have the backing they need in the House.
And on top of that, it’s a bad sign for how the bill would fare in the Senate, too.
From Fox News:
I think Speaker Pelosi has discovered that she doesn’t have support for the comprehensive bill in the House. And I think that indicates where it is in the Senate as well.
Republicans have denounced the bill from the moment it came out. So this will likely come as good news to the right side of the aisle.
They’ve already called out the Biden admin for not acknowledging the crisis at our southern border.
Now, though, even Democrats like Durbin are starting to realize the situation is bad.
“The numbers that are coming are overwhelming,” he said.
And countering this with amnesty for 11 million isn’t the best solution, as far as most right-wing voters and lawmakers are concerned.
The House will consider two bills this week regarding citizenship and DREAMERs, but this amnesty plan doesn’t look promising right now.
If it runs into a problem in the House, it’s likely it’ll also encounter a support issue in the Senate.
That’s what Durbin is saying here, which is why the comprehensive bill might have to be taken back and retooled in some way.
In the end, Republicans are hoping the amnesty plan simply falls apart before it gets any further.
- Sen. Dick Durbin sounds the alarm on the Democrat-led amnesty bill.
- He believes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi realizes she doesn’t have the support she needs.
- Durbin says this also means the bill would have trouble passing through the Senate.
