DC Mayor Slams The Brakes On 27 States – Capitol Visitors Will Be Forced To Self-Quarantine For 2 Weeks

If you wish to travel to certain states these days, you may have to self-quarantine for a while.

Citizens coming from states deemed “high-risk areas” have to isolate themselves for 14 days, which essentially means staying inside most of the time.

And if you wish to visit our nation’s capitol, be aware: Washington D.C. has a hefty list of “high-risk” states.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has revealed a list of 27 states that qualify — and if you’re coming from one of these states, you’ll have to self-quarantine.

A state is considered “high-risk” if the coronavirus rate is “10 or more people per 100,000 persons.”

For some reason, Maryland and Virginia are exempt from this order, but here are the states on the list:

On top of which, Bowser urged D.C. residents to remain home, or only travel to low-risk areas.

And if you are planning to go to D.C., remember that this list will be updated every two weeks — so be sure to check before making the trip.

The next update is scheduled for August 20, and the order will remain in effect at least until October 9.

As an important note, this order doesn’t apply to those simply “traveling through,” such as people driving through the city or passing through an airport.

There is also an exception for “essential travel,” and Congress members are exempt as well because they qualify as “essential workers.”

Mayor Bowser hasn’t been afraid to be strict about virus protocols.

In fact, she recently amped up the city’s face mask rule, which now says anyone 3 or older must wear a mask outside the house.

If you don’t follow this rule, you face a fine of up to $1,000, which begs the question — what’s the fine for visitors to D.C. from “high-risk states” who don’t self-quarantine?

Of course, some citizens also believe these rules infringe on our personal freedoms, an increasingly hot topic of debate.

How far is too far…?

Key Takeaways:

  • Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser just released a list of “high-risk states.”
  • Residents from these states who come to D.C. must self-quarantine for at least 14 days.
  • The order remains in place through October 9, and only those “passing through” are exempt. “Essential travel” is permitted as well.
