Americans were shocked to see seven Senate Republicans turn on the party to vote against Donald Trump.
They failed, along with the left, but it doesn’t change the fact that these lawmakers might forever be considered RINOs by the party.
Quickly, state Republicans called out these senators for their vote. Some of them have already received harsh retribution (as did House Republicans who voted for impeachment).
Mitt Romney was one of the seven—big surprise. He was the only Republican to vote against Trump in the first impeachment.
But now, his decision to turn on the party and Trump might come back to hurt him.
From The Epoch Times:
Republicans in Utah are calling for the censure of Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) after he and six other Republicans joined Democrats in voting to convict former President Donald Trump…
The petition also says Romney has misrepresented himself as a Republican and “prioritized his personal and political vendetta against” Trump at the expense of the party and the U.S. Constitution.
Most Republicans in the House and Senate believed the second impeachment of Trump was unconstitutional. They voted accordingly.
But Mitt Romney apparently ignored the many problems with the left’s case and voted to convict Trump of “incitement.”
While Republican party leaders in Utah are being cagey about reprimanding the senator, voters sure aren’t. They are circulating a petition demanding the Utah GOP censures Romney over his decision.
It’s pretty sad to see how quickly some Republicans turn on their own party. Would you expect Democrats to have ever turned on Obama—even if he did something worthy of impeachment?
Do we ever see Democrats turning on their own, even when they are guilty of some terrible comment or action?
Yet, all too often, key Republicans in D.C. quickly turn on the party or fellow Republicans, just to save their own skin.
They seem more concerned with keeping up their reputation with the swamp than sticking to their convictions.
It’s the reason the Democrats always come back from defeat, while Republicans have such a hard time.
Maybe a censure will finally wake up Romney. Maybe not. Perhaps stronger measures need to be taken, like a recall?
