We’re not exaggerating when we say the walls are closing in on Andrew Cuomo. But it seems leading Democrats are split on what to do over him.
If he was a Republican, we all know what they’d be doing right now (rhymes with bo-peachment).
Some Democrats, like the state’s U.S. senators, are turning on him.
From AP News:
None of the desertions hurt more than those of New York’s two U.S. senators, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
“Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York,” the Democratic senators wrote in a joint statement. “Governor Cuomo should resign.”
Wow. New York’s very leftist senators are casting Cuomo out, saying he “should resign.” That’s not going to be easy for him to ignore.
The killing blow would be from the very top, right? But for some reason, neither Biden nor Harris is willing to take a stand—despite their previous statements in other scandals.
From Fox News:
President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are not calling for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign even as a growing number of New York and national Democrats say it’s time for the scandal-ridden governor to step down…
“I think the investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us,” Biden said Sunday.
Huh. What a great, brave stance from the “Leader of the Free World.” I seem to recall both Biden and Harris taking very different stances when a certain Supreme Court justice nominee was hit with one accusation.
Both Biden and Harris “believed all women” when a Republican-nominated judge was accused. Even though the accusations against Brett Kavanaugh were questionable at best, these two Democrats wanted his head.
But when a Democratic governor who handled the pandemic horribly is being accused by twice as many women—who worked closely with the man and have credible stories—Biden and Harris can’t take a stand.
For all the bad things that come out of the Democratic Party, at least in this one moment most of them appear to be doing the right thing (although for the wrong reasons, perhaps).
Many Democrats want Cuomo to resign, saying he’s lost the trust of the public. That’s not easy for them to do, since they usually stand by their members even during indictments.
So, why can’t Biden and Harris do the same? Especially when they were so outspoken in similar scandals?
- New York’s Democratic senators have called on Cuomo to resign.
- Neither Biden nor Harris has committed to a stance on the scandals.
- Biden claims the investigation must play out and has refused to comment further.
