The problems for New York’s embattled governor keep mounting. After major scandals came out, one Democratic state lawmaker is calling for his impeachment.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is now facing a call for his impeachment over his administration’s handling of nursing homes from a member of his own party…
“…the Governor may have obstructed justice by suppressing life and death data from the Department of Justice; his office underestimated the number of nursing home deaths by up to fifty percent,” he added.
And that was just over the nursing home controversy! It seems, close on the heels of all that, another New York staffer has revealed Cuomo’s mistreatment of her. She even claimed he once invited her to play “strip poker.”
Now, a Republican congresswoman is demanding Cuomo step up and answer for these allegations.
From Fox News:
Republican U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik called on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to “immediately resign” after a former Cuomo aide detailed sexual harassment allegations against him on Wednesday…
In a statement Wednesday, Stefanik, R-N.Y., on Wednesday slammed Cuomo saying he “has earned his title as Worst Governor in America, and now every New Yorker knows that he is a criminal sexual predator.”
A former deputy secretary for economic development and special adviser accused Cuomo of inappropriate behavior. In response, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, is calling on the man to resign.
Cuomo’s troubles started with a top aide admitting they covered up the number of nursing home deaths. That triggered an FBI investigation.
Then Ron Kim, a New York lawmaker, claimed the governor threatened him. Soon, numerous Democrats–including NYC Mayor de Blasio–turned on Cuomo.
Things only got worse when Lindsey Boylan revealed her story. The governor’s actions–and the fact that his top staff told her to be silent–forced her to resign in 2018. Only now is she coming forward with her story.
It’s pretty shocking to see all this come out–and so quickly. So far, Cuomo appears defiant, refusing to speak much on these mounting scandals.
But with Boylan’s claims hitting the news today, there’s really nowhere Cuomo can hide. In the post “MeToo” era, he will have to answer for what’s being said.
Pressure might even grow from both parties for investigations and impeachment. Cuomo’s best move might be to resign, just to save his skin.
