California Governor Gavin Newsom hasn’t been overly popular lately. Many have questioned his handling of the pandemic, and a recall petition has been circulating since mid-2020.
And as that petition has gained steam, more Cali residents are pushing back against the Democrat leader. Now Gavin is starting to get some heat during his press conferences, too.
For example, during his latest conference, he kept hearing two words repeated over and over.
Newsom was talking to reporters in Fresno at the city’s fairgrounds: he provided them with an epidemic update and talked about a new vaccine distribution site in the Central Valley.
But he didn’t get far before hecklers started chanting, and this obviously irritated the Governor.
The hecklers weren’t specifically calling out Newsom’s pandemic actions; instead, they were chanting “Recall Newsom!”

While Newsom didn’t directly address the rowdy crowd, it’s pretty clear he wasn’t happy about the interruptions. But perhaps it’s because he’s a little worried about that petition.
The Recall Newsom campaign recently hit 1.4 million signatures, and it only needs 1.5 million to qualify for a statewide vote.
Campaign organizers have until March 10 to hit that goal and if it happens, they move on to the next stage. Even if it remains unlikely that Newsom will be recalled, it’s a strong statement.
The heckling adds to the power of that statement, which is clear: a lot of California residents aren’t happy with the governor’s leadership.
Despite the vaccine rollout, many schools and small businesses remain closed throughout the state, and an indoor dining ban remains as well.
Even if Newsom avoids the recall, it seems apparent that his reputation has taken a hit in the past year or so. And that could prove problematic for his political future.
He swears he’s fighting for those small businesses and schools and he wants to keep everyone safe. But in the meantime, residents continue to feel the crunch of his restrictive guidelines.
