It’s rare to see liberals and conservatives working together. Their views on government are so radical, that they often refuse to cooperate.
But when they do, it’s eye-opening. Such as when Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez actually teamed up to push legislation to ban Congress members from joining lobbyist groups.
Now, another unlikely duo is teaming up to provide something that has been denied to Americans for months. From The Hill:
Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) are emerging as Congress’s latest odd couple as they push for a second round of stimulus checks.
They are teaming up, and giving leadership a headache, by threatening to hold up a mammoth government funding bill, which could keep their colleagues marooned in Washington heading into Christmas.
The two want their colleagues to pass language that is a replica of the March CARES Act that provided a $1,200 check to Americans making up to $75,000 per year.
Staunch conservative Josh Hawley and known socialist Bernie Sanders are working together to get a new round of stimulus checks to Americans.
The government has been promising new relief packages for Americans hit by COVID lockdowns for months. But Nancy Pelosi has refused to negotiate with Republicans, in what many have called a political stunt.
But it seems Hawley and Sanders are threatening to hold up a major funding bill unless stimulus checks are added.
President Trump has threatened to veto the upcoming spending bill because it lacks a Section 230 immunity ban for social networks and the renaming of Confederate military bases.
This bill might not even make it to Trump’s desk, given this latest development. Between these two senators, they’re trying to stop its progress. Both can vote to block or use other means to make it DOA.
In addition to this, these senators could also influence other members of their party to make the same demand. That can force Republicans and Democrats to negotiate a deal in which these funding checks are added.
But is that likely to happen? In recent years, both parties appear unable to negotiate. While Trump has made history in crafting deals in the Middle East, American politicians appear unable to agree on anything.
Do you support another round of stimulus checks for the American people?
- Senators Josh Hawley and Bernie Sanders are teaming up to get stimulus checks to Americans.
- They threaten to delay passage of a large funding bill, unless party leaders add these checks.
- They want to get $1,200 payments to Americans suffering from the COVID lockdowns.
