For nearly a full year now, many citizens around the country have questioned Andrew Cuomo’s leadership during our national crisis.
Some believe the New York governor has made crucial mistakes. His nursing home debacle continues to hit the headlines everywhere except CNN, where they seem to be covering for him.
But now, things have reached a fever pitch—now a fellow Democrat is calling for an investigation into Cuomo’s handling of state data.
The nursing home issue seemed to die down in recent months. But it just got shoved back into the limelight in the past week.
That’s because a Cuomo aide allegedly confessed that Cuomo’s administration withheld important data from the Department of Justice.
This revelation hit the news hard, and now the governor is once again on the hot seat.
He might be facing a federal investigation this time, too. That’s what Rep. Antonio Delgado (D-NY) is calling for:
Politics should never come before people's lives. The Secretary to the Governor’s remarks are beyond troubling and warrant a full investigation. (1/2)
— Antonio Delgado (@DelgadoforNY19) February 14, 2021
Delgado wants a “full investigation” into the situation, which involves the allegations that Cuomo ordered nursing homes to take in residents infected with the virus.
And as he said in that tweet, “politics should never come before people’s lives.”
The whistleblower aide – Secretary to the Governor, Melissa DeRosa – apparently said Cuomo’s team worried about the data:
They believed the data could be “used against us” by the Justice Department, and therefore they withheld certain statistics. Cuomo himself hasn’t yet responded to this accusation.
But DeRosa’s statement is pretty strong; here’s what she told lawmakers (via the New York Post):
We were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation.
If true, this could really land the Cuomo administration in very hot water.
We should mention that DeRosa did attempt to clarify her statement, saying they just “needed to temporarily set aside the Legislature’s request to deal with the federal request first.”
But if any data was indeed withheld, and that can be proven, the DOJ might definitely react. And that’s what Rep. Delgado is hoping will happen.
He probably isn’t the only one, either.
Many demand answers concerning this situation, especially with so many lives evidently affected by Cuomo’s decision.
- Democratic Rep. Antonio Delgado is calling for a “full investigation” into New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration.
- Delgado is responding to an apparent admission from Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa — it’s possible that NY withheld critical data from the government.
- If accurate, this could prove to be a serious issue, and the DOJ might get directly involved.
