Congress Calls 4 Sanctuary City Mayors to Testify Over Federal Immigration Enforcement

American cities are facing a crisis of their own making. While illegal immigration surges at unprecedented levels, certain progressive leaders have decided to play politics with public safety.

The consequences are playing out in neighborhoods across the country. Local law enforcement finds their hands tied. Criminal aliens walk free. And progressive mayors continue doubling down on policies that shield dangerous offenders from deportation.

(Let’s be honest – did they really think they could ignore federal law forever?)

But now, these sanctuary city champions are about to face some uncomfortable questions.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has called four of the nation’s most defiant sanctuary city mayors to testify before Congress about their refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

“Sanctuary jurisdictions and their misguided and obstructionist policies hinder the ability of federal law enforcement officers to effectuate safe arrests and remove dangerous criminals from American communities, making Americans less safe,” Comer wrote in letters to each mayor.

Defiant Mayors Face Congressional Scrutiny

The committee specifically targeted Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams – accusing their cities of standing out “in their abject failure to comply with federal law.”

These progressive leaders didn’t take long to push back. Denver’s Johnston fired off a dismissive response: “The most helpful thing Congressional Republicans could do right now is fix our broken immigration system.”

Boston’s Wu, who recently gave birth to her third child, maintained through a spokesperson that Boston remains “the safest major city in the United States” – seemingly ignoring the connection between sanctuary policies and public safety.

Law Enforcement Pushes Back

Former Trump border czar Tom Homan didn’t mince words about Wu’s defiant stance on immigration enforcement.

“She’s not very smart, I’ll give her that,” Homan said. “President Trump’s going to prioritize public safety threats. What mayor or governor doesn’t want public safety threats out of their communities?”

Real Results vs. Progressive Promises

While these sanctuary city mayors preen and posture about “protecting communities,” federal authorities continue removing dangerous criminals from American streets.

Want to know what real immigration enforcement looks like? Just last week, ICE operations in the Boston area resulted in the arrest of eight violent offenders – including gang members charged with sexual assault, rape, and murder.

In a single day this week, immigration authorities made nearly 1,200 arrests nationwide, demonstrating the scale of the criminal alien problem these sanctuary policies enable.

The February 11th hearing will force these progressive mayors to explain their obstruction directly to Congress. Chairman Comer’s committee has also demanded documents and communications related to sanctuary policies, potentially exposing the full scope of how these cities undermine federal law enforcement.

For millions of Americans living in these sanctuary jurisdictions, the congressional oversight comes none too soon. When local leaders prioritize protecting criminal aliens over citizen safety, someone needs to step in and demand answers.

Remember when following federal law wasn’t considered optional? Those were the days.

The question now: Will these progressive mayors show up to defend their dangerous policies, or will they dodge accountability just like they dodge federal immigration enforcement?
