It’s no secret that many suffering Americans are blaming China for their role in the outbreak. Aside from those who got sick and died, millions more suffered financial hardship as a result of this crisis.
But what can everyday Americans do about that? We can’t very well demand that China pay us back for what we lost, right?
Well, wrong, actually. Because a conservative duo is preparing legislation that will let you do just that.
From NY Post:
Sen. Tom Cotton and Rep. Dan Crenshaw have introduced legislation that would allow Americans to sue China in federal court over the death and economic damage wrought by the “Wuhan Virus.”
… They said the legislation would amend the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act to create a narrow exception for “damages caused by China’s dangerous handling of the COVID-19 outbreak.”
Wow. Sen. Tom Cotton and Rep. Dan Crenshaw introduced legislation that will give Americans the power to sue China in federal court.
Let’s face it, there are going to be MANY lawsuits as a result of this crisis. Millions of Americans have suffered because of COVID-19. And they’re looking for someone to blame.
And we really can’t be upset with them. Not a single American has come out of this unharmed, have they?
I won’t be surprised if lawsuits are leveled against state and local governments. Not to mention the federal government for recommending massive lockdowns.
But these two Republicans are urging Americans to seek recompense from the country many think is to blame.
Cotton called out China for “silencing doctors and journalists” who tried to spread the word about the virus. He accused the Chinese Communist Party of allowing it quickly spread around the world.
Early on, it seems like China was not honest about the disease. They acted slowly to close their own borders to the world, and the virus soon reached other countries.
They even tried to claim the United States created the virus and spread it to China.
Now, there is some evidence to suggest the virus originated in a Wuhan lab with poor safety standards. Giving Americans even more reason to pursue lawsuits against China.
You might be wondering how our courts can force China to pay up. Well, look at it this way. If enough Americans file lawsuits, it will give our country enough motivation to confront China.
We can place sanctions on the country. Or well can cancel some of the debt we owe them.. Or at the very least, come to some kind of agreement that will see financial provisions delivered to Americans.
But the first step is sending a loud message to the communist nation: that we won’t let you off the hook.
Lawsuits might be a good way of doing that.
SHARE if you support a bill that will hold China accountable.
