The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Constitution provides a right to carry a gun outside the home, issuing a major decision on the meaning of the Second Amendment…
“The constitutional right to bear arms in public for selfdefense is not ‘a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees,’” Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in the majority opinion. “We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need.”
Boom! This is big news. The Supreme Court ruled, 6-3 that the Second Amendment allows an American the right to carry a gun outside the home.
This ruling comes in response to a New York State law that required citizens to request permission from the government to carry outside.
A New Yorker had to explain to the state why they had a “special need” to carry a concealed weapon.
The court did not agree. Justice Thomas blasted the law, saying no other right protected by the Bill of Rights has those kinds of limitations.
The justice went further, bashing liberals whose gun control laws turn the Second Amendment into a “second-class right.”
Justices Roberts and Kavanaugh issued a concerning opinion. They also ruled that states can require licensing requirements, such as fingerprinting and background checks.
But states cannot demand that a law-abiding citizen jump through hoops just to exercise a God-given right.
This is a major win for Second Amendment-loving Americans. At a time when Democrats and even some Republicans are trying to rip guns from our hands, the court stands up for us.
Don’t be surprised when Joe Biden and other Democrats lambast this ruling. But they will not be able to overturn it.
