What’s Happening:
Remember way back in 2020—when leftists tried to erase our history? Funny how that coincided with a presidential election, huh?
We don’t hear much from liberals anymore, complaining that George Washington’s name is on things. And now, a few places that foolishly tore down statues and wiped out names are reverting.
From Daily Wire:
The statue of a Civil War hero was re-dedicated in Wisconsin on Sunday after a mob tore down the original during the summer of 2020.
Descendants of Colonel Hans Christian Heg, a Union soldier who died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Chickamauga in Georgia, attended the ceremony.
Yes, those idiots tore down a Union soldier statue. But that’s not all.
From Daily Mail:
Two Virginia schools which had been named after Confederate generals and soldiers and which changed their names in the wake of the 2020 murder of George Floyd, are to revert back to their earlier names…
Vocal opposition came from community members and alumni with more than 4,000 people signing the petition to switch the names back.
Wisconsin rededicated a statue of Union Civil War hero Colonel Hans Christian Heg after BLM rioters tore it down in 2020.
Why did it take so long for them to do the right thing? We can’t be certain. But at least they held a ceremony, in which Heg’s descendants were able to participate.
In Virginia, even more controversial changes are being reversed. Two schools, Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby-Lee Elementary School changed their names 2 years ago, because of outrage from progressive activists.
But a petition signed by 4,000 community members and alumni urged a meeting to discuss changing the names back. New board members believed the change was rushed, without the board considering how it impacted the community.
Chances are, outside forces pushed for the name changes. The school board, terrified of media blowback, cowered to the woke mob.
But cooler heads are prevailing. And the historic names have been restored.
It’s one thing for a community to make changes, based on its own values and convictions. But for “woke” activists in other parts of the country to pressure people through guilt and shame—that’s another thing.
It’s great to see the insanity of 2020 begin to fade. Hopefully, more restorations like this are coming.
Key Takeaways:
- A Civil War statue has been rededicated after being torn down in the 2020 riots.
- The statue was of a Union war hero.
