Chicago voters went to the polls this week to elect a new mayor. While most cities hold elections in November, Chicago couldn’t wait to rule on Lori Lightfoot’s tenure over the Windy City. Experts speculated her fate wouldn’t be decided for weeks, as the crowded field would lead to a runoff.
Well, Lightfoot doesn’t have to worry about that. Because she ain’t going to the runoff!
From Fox News:
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a Democrat, lost her re-election bid Monday night, and critics are celebrating the end of her term…
Lightfoot faced challenges from eight other candidates in the mayoral race, but failed to make the runoff after finishing the election in third place.
Wow. Lightfoot, the incumbent, could break into the top two. She came in third, with only a fraction of the vote. That, by all appearances, means voters rejected Lightfoot’s failed leadership. But if you ask her, it had everything to do with race and gender.
From Yahoo News:
Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot attributed her election loss to racism and sexism in comments to reporters Tuesday night…
“I’m a black woman in America. Of course,” she replied when asked by a reporter if she had been treated unfairly, according to the New York Post. Lightfoot neglected to mention that Johnson is also black.
How pathetic. Lightfoot refused to own up to her failed leadership, blaming her loss on her race and gender. Hey, wait a minute–I thought Democrats couldn’t define a woman! Pretty convenient, Lori. Call me crazy, but Lightfoot was a black woman when she was first elected, right?
Here’s the real reason Lightfoot lost: rampant crime and shocking decline within the city.
From Fox News:
Under Lightfoot, Chicago has seen soaring crime rates, which became a theme of her opponents’ criticism. In 2021, homicides in Chicago rose to their highest numbers in 25 years, outpacing other crime-ridden cities like New York City and Los Angeles.
Yeah. But that’s just for starters. Lightfoot has turned a blind eye to many shocking problems in the city, including a homeless city growing… in the airport!
The number of homeless people [at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport] has been steadily growing in the terminal facilities, leaving many concerned for the safety of travelers and airport employees alike as squalid shelters and sleeping vagrants have begun springing up all around the airport, especially the lower concourses.
Um… when a mayor is such a failure that she can’t even keep the airport clear of homeless? Yeah, she is going to lose re-election. This mayor attacked the police, politicized every issue, and neglected every problem the city faced. She was incompetent and unqualified. That is why she lost.
But she’ll keep blaming her gender and race, calling the people of Chicago sexist and racist. Good job, Lori.
- Lori Lightfoot lost re-election as mayor of Chicago.
- Voters blamed the Democrat for a drastic rise in crime and other shocking problems.
- Lightfoot refused to accept blame, instead said she lost because she’s a black woman.
