President Trump has frequently condemned what’s been going on in major blue cities as a travesty.
Democrats, in response, have often denied his support. Even Mayor Lightfoot of Chicago has been resistant to Trump’s aid at nearly every step it seems.
But the problem in Chicago has only gotten worse. Last night, things got very bad.
Widespread looting has led to drastic measures by the city:
By Monday morning rush hour, city officials had raised the bridges across the Chicago River in an apparent effort to stop people from going downtown, while Illinois state police blocked off ramps and CTA suspended train and bus service…
“Videos that were circulating on social media captured the early morning scenes of hundreds of people in the streets, dozens of police officers, looting, and confrontations with the police,” The New York Times reported.
Chicago police confronted a young man reports indicate was armed. Soon after, an apparently organized riot broke out across the city.
Numerous locations were hit by protesters. Reports claim cars “dropped off more people” to swell the crowds. One person reportedly saw a U-Haul van arrive with many people.
The city responded by closing roads into the downtown area. Bridges have been raised to prevent people from surging the hotspots.
According to other reports, police were overwhelmed, unable or unwilling to end the spree.
This is consistent with what we’ve seen in major Democrat cities since early Summer. BLM, Antifa, and other radical anarchists appear to be using claims of police brutality to justify widespread chaos.
This particular incident in Chicago reportedly involved an armed suspect, so these groups’ claims are becoming increasingly hard to swallow.
Democrats have previously promised to defund police departments, which has only resulted in surges in crime. Chicago has had one of its worst years. President Trump has offered federal law enforcement to quell much of the trouble.
Democrat leaders have either refused the support or even criticized his efforts. Mayor Lightfoot had at one point promised to prevent Feds from entering the city.
Hey, Lightfoot, I think you should be more worried about what these radical leftists are doing in your town.
- After an incident with police, widespread chaos has struck Chicago.
- The city has closed roads and raised bridges, as police are “overwhelmed.”
- President Trump has frequently criticized Democrat-run cities and their surge in crime.
