The once-popular Governor of California is in some serious hot water. He might never have expected a simple recall petition in the blue state would get any attention.
But never underestimate Americans’ hated of COVID lockdown rules.
Since the fall of last year, the movement to recall the governor has gained steam. The organizers claim they have 1.5 million signatures, plenty to make the election a reality.
And now, the recall leader says the vote will be going on the ballot.
From Fox Business:
A special election in the effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom will likely be held this fall, according to the movements’ leader Randy Economy…
“We’re going to continue to work as hard as we can and to make sure [Newsom] is held accountable and to make sure our rights as an electorate are granted because we’ve done the heavy lifting to make sure that this special election is going to go ahead and move forward.”
Why It’s Important:
The leader of the recall effort, Randy Economy, has declared they were successful. He says that the election will be on the ballot this November.
Recently, it appeared that the recall movement had reached enough votes to trigger the election. But they warned that they need more to be safe–and that Newsom might try to subvert it.
The RNC donated $250,000 toward the effort. And one potential candidate donated a million of his own money.
Now it seems Economy believes they have succeeded in getting the required signatures.
The final tally has not been revealed and the results are not official. The deadline is in March and the state will have to verify the signatures.
But it seems like the people who put so much work into calling out Newsom are confident in their results.
If the petition is verified, then a recall election will be held in November. Republican challengers will be able to go after the governor themselves.
A whole new battle will begin to take back the governorship from the Democrats.
That won’t be an easy task. Newsom and his cabal of supporters will do everything in their power to hold onto the seat.
It will be another intense battle to save California from a man who shut it down, but refused to follow his own rules.
