The Democratic governor of California has not had a stellar few years. He’s been plagued with a mass exodus, as countless residents flee to other states.
It could have something to do with sky-high taxes and liberal policies that hurt working families and business owners.
Then, in 2020, Newsom pushed strict lockdowns—but was caught not following them himself.
And now it looks like things are only getting worse for the governor. Because a petition to remove him just reached a milestone.
Form CBS Los Angeles:
Recall organizers say they have collected more than half the nearly 1.5 million petition signatures needed to place the recall on the ballot, and they have until mid-March to hit the required threshold…
Recall organizer Orrin Heatlie, a retired county sheriff’s sergeant, predicted they would gather the needed signatures, though added an infusion of cash would help.
State records show just under 300,000 signatures have been filed, though Economy said another 500,000 are in the pipeline with county election officials.
It seems that interest in removing Newsom has been around for a while. But it exploded after the governor was outed for ignoring his own lockdown rules.
After placing new orders on the state—shutting down businesses and forcing people into their homes—Newsom was seen attending a dinner party at a restaurant with dozens of guests.
Perhaps many California residents are outraged that Newsom is putting such strict limits on their liberties, yet refuses to do the same for themselves.
That is a pattern we’ve from other California Democrats, including local health officials, city council members, and Nancy Pelosi herself.
This wouldn’t be the first time in recent history that Californians rejected a Democrat governor. Back in 2003, they voted to get rid of Gray Davis and elected Arnold Schwarzenegger in his place.
California has faced plenty of challenges under Newsom. Remember, the state has been hit with wildfires, mudslides, and widespread blackouts during his regime. He had to place an emergency hold on shutting down the state’s last coal power plants, just to keep the lights on.
Even then, they begged the federal government to help them out. Texas and other energy independent states had to chip in.
As costs of living rose and taxes with it, plenty of people (including business owners) fled to greener pastures. Notable figures like Elon Musk even announced they were leaving the once Golden State.
The recall effort has months to get the rest of their signatures. Then, we’ll see what happens.
