Working people in America are growing tired of watching their taxes disappear into the pet projects of liberal politicians. People across the country are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis even though they work hard at their jobs.

The jobs of the working class seem tougher every time liberals announce a new plan to help people who aren’t paying their fair share. Some people who aren’t working often appear to be getting more help than what the taxpayers are receiving.

California has been a hotbed of failed liberal projects that claim they will solve the ills of society by spending more taxpayers’ hard-earned money. Liberal politicians have decided that homeless people need better accommodations and taxpayers need to foot the bill.

Taxpayers are funding a new high-rise building in Los Angeles where homeless people will enjoy skyline views, a cafe, a gym, and an art studio, not to mention the free rent.

The fancy new building is 19 stories high and has 278 units, each costing about $600,000. The total cost was $165 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. It is the first of three new high-rise buildings that will soon house homeless people.

Tenants for the top-shelf high-rise will be gathered from Skid Row where they will go from homeless to living large. Skid Row is the infamous Los Angeles neighborhood occupied by homeless people for decades despite a variety of efforts to clean up the area.

This modern tower for the homeless includes a TV in each apartment, a gym, an art room, a soundproofed music room, a computer room with a library, a TV lounge, a courtyard, and a cafe that will host movie nights. There are also six common balconies, four of which have dog runs.

Where are politicians getting all the money for this project? The buildings are funded by the city’s supportive housing loan program, Proposition HHH, which was approved by city voters in 2016, as well as state housing funds and $56 million in state tax credits.

The three apartment buildings will be located around the headquarters of the Weingart Center, a nonprofit that assists homeless people. Kevin Murray, a former California state senator, is the man behind the project. He serves as the chief executive of the nonprofit.

“We’re trying to make our little corner of the world look and feel a little better,” Murray said.

The project integrates the buildings into the Weingart Center mission. The first building’s commercial kitchen will also serve the 600-bed homeless shelter next door.

The second building is scheduled to have 302 units, and the third 104 units. The buildings are designed to house about 700 homeless people.

The effort to build this project to fight poverty has been met with harsh criticism. Members of the Downtown Industrial Business Improvement District, a nonprofit that advocates for the property and business owners, employees, and residents of downtown Los Angeles, believe concentrating extreme poverty is bad policy.

As a hardworking taxpayer, it’s frustrating to see our money being used for these costly projects that seem to benefit a select few. It’s not that I don’t believe in helping those in need, but there has to be a more balanced approach that doesn’t place such a heavy burden on those of us struggling to make ends meet.
