House Speaker Nancy Pelosi probably never imagined a simple trip to the salon could turn into a massive controversy. But that’s exactly what happened.
Earlier this week, Fox News released surveillance footage of Pelosi in the salon with a mask around her neck, not on her face. A masked stylist follows her in the video.
This prompted major backlash, especially from those who say the face mask rules don’t seem to apply to the rich and powerful.
And Republicans claim its doubly hypocritical because it’s typically Democrats who push for face mask mandates.
Pelosi later apologized but claimed the whole thing was a “set up.” This resulted in even more of any outcry.
In turn, some California residents decided to vent their frustrations at Pelosi’s home — and they turned one of her trees into the “Freedom Tree.”
In videos that popped up on social media, we see mostly female demonstrators hanging blow dryers and curlers from a tree outside Pelosi’s San Francisco residence:

The demonstrators called themselves “angry salon customers,” and they didn’t stop with the hair appliances.
They also draped the tree with an American Flag. Apparently, that’s why they call it the “Freedom Tree.”
Basically, they believe that if Pelosi can get her hair done during the pandemic, they should be allowed to as well. Thus far, indoor salons aren’t allowed to open their doors to customers.

Unsurprisingly, many business owners have struggled to survive under these conditions.
And the salon owner, Erica Kious, called Pelosi’s visit “a slap in the face” to business owners facing hard times. After all, Pelosi supported the closing of businesses in the first place.
Though Pelosi has since apologized, her calling it a “set up” has only tossed more fuel on the fire.
Was it wrong of the House Speaker to do this? And is it wrong for demonstrators to take issue with the situation?
Well, either way, there’s now a “Freedom Tree” in front of Pelosi’s house.
Key Takeaways:
- Demonstrators assembled in front of Nancy Pelosi’s residence to protest against her recent salon visit.
- They hung hair dryers and curlers from a tree, and dubbed it “The Freedom Tree.”
- The salon owner called Pelosi’s appointment “a slap in the face” to struggling business owners in the area.
