What’s Happening:
Despite what the media says, Americans from all walks of life love this country. Even in hard times, we band together to celebrate what makes this country great.
That’s what Ben York has been doing with his convertible white Cadillac for years. It has been the centerpiece at parades, winning over fans for a long time.
But he knew something was missing. So, York decided to give the old Cadillac a paint job. And it would make even old George Washington tear up.
From National Flag Foundation:
Last June, York decided to paint the car like Old Glory. York and his brother, James, spent two long weekends giving his car a red, white and blue makeover.
“The minute we pulled the car out of the garage, it started getting a lot of attention,” said York, a professional painter. “People would wave at us on the freeway and take videos.”
York, a professional painter, did an amazing job painting the Red, White, and Blue across his formerly white Cadillac.
The car, which has been featured in parades, instantly got attention. At the Independence Day parade in 2018, he had the honor of driving the mayor in the car.
The “Flag Cadillac” become a local hit, but York had to part ways with the vehicle. He put it up for auction and it attracted thousands of views.
It was bought by a software executive who cherished the idea of driving it to Fourth of July celebrations.
He even plans on driving it up to Long Island for parades.
York said goodbye to the iconic vehicles, but it might not be the last of its kind. The painter is mulling creating another “Flag Cadillac.”
He just can’t seem to live without one.
No doubt, many have been inspired by this man’s creative celebration of the flag. Hopefully, there will be more copycats all over the country.
