Disgraced Blue State DA Gets Her Punishment – Judge Hands Down Big Sentence for 2 Crimes

Those who are given too much power tend to drift toward corruption far more often than people realize. The old saying states how power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

For government workers who are given too much power the tendency is they will sooner than later devolve to a level of moral corruption that is fueled by their thirst for power. The only thing stopping this power from reaching a level of tyranny is the balance of power afforded by the Constitution.

That balance was adjusted recently when a former darling of the left was sentenced for her self-involved corruption. She fell from the heights of liberal mainstream media attention to the depths of being disgraced for her actions that led to her prosecution.

From the Washington Examiner:
Former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby was sentenced to time served, three years of supervised release, and one year of home confinement for perjury and mortgage fraud.

Mosby is best known for prosecuting six police officers involved in the death of Freddie Gray in 2015. Her sentencing hearing began Thursday. She was convicted of lying in her financial documents during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to access retirement funds.

Mosby was defiant in her response to the conviction, claiming she was being attacked for her actions involving the Freddie Gray case. She attempted to prosecute six officers who were allegedly involved in the death of Gray while in police custody.

Her calls for a pardon from the president and her defiance related to the conviction and sentencing prompted prosecutors to pursue a harsher sentence from the judge in the case.

“These lies demonstrate that Marilyn Mosby is unremorseful, that she has no regard for the truth,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Delaney said.

Prosecutors wanted a 20-month sentence, but U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby asked whether there were any victims of Mosby’s charges. Prosecutors agreed there were no direct victims, but that Mosby’s lies under oath affected the greater community she served.

“All citizens are victims when their public officials lie,” Delaney said.

The judge took into consideration that Mosby’s actions did not involve taxpayer money and the potential of an extended separation from her two daughters.

Mosby gained national fame following the death of Gray in April 2015 after she pursued prosecution of the six police officers allegedly involved in his death. Her prosecutions failed. Three officers were cleared of charges, and she dropped charges against the others. The case prompted mass riots in Baltimore.

Key Takeaways:

  • A disgraced former Baltimore DA was sentenced for lying on financial documents.
  • Marilyn Mosby was convicted of perjury and mortgage fraud earlier this week.
  • Mosby claimed innocence while prosecutors say she is unremorseful for her actions.
