The world of politics has created some strange alliances throughout history. Sometimes the adage of the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” works well in political circles, especially during heated elections at the national level.
Politics in the United States has become so divisive that some strange alliances appear to be forming. Trump has been racking up endorsements for his campaign at a pace that outpaces the entire GOP field for the 2024 presidential election.
Now a political opponent of the former president – who is part of an organization that called him racist – is rallying behind Trump and ditching Democrats. Mark Fisher, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island, explained to Fox News why some Black voters are ditching their party and contemplating another candidate to vote for in the 2024 presidential election.
From Fox News:
“We’re not stupid,” Fisher said. “The brothers are not stupid. We understand when someone’s for us and when someone is not, and it’s obvious that the Democratic Party is not for us. Trump has done more for the Black community than I any president I can think of in my lifetime.”
Fisher went on to share how he sees Democrats’ “hypocrisy” and their policies that “strike at the heart of the Black family and the nuclear family.” He is part of a voting block that continues to move away from Biden and Democrats ahead of the presidential election next year.
Democrats are shocked that Trump has grown in popularity among black voters. A New York Times/Siena College poll this month found Trump had reached an unprecedented level of support from Black voters in battleground states that Biden won in 2020. Support for Trump among black voters in Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin has spiked to 22%, up from 8% support for Trump in 2020.
Fisher credited the exodus of the black vote to a Democratic Party that has abused his community for too long and a party that promotes “basically racist policies.”
“I believe it’s a racist party,” Fisher told Fox News. “Donald Trump is just the opposite. He’s going to tell you how it is. He’s going to give it to you straight.”
Fisher said he believes Black voters still voting for Democrats are “misinformed” and that it will take educated leaders to get the word out about Trump’s history of support for the Black community. Trump’s personality and record are what Fisher turns to when considering who to vote for next year.
“How could you not like a real man? How could you not relate to someone like that?” Fisher continued. “I think that (getting the word out) will happen on its own, and it’ll be organic, because personally, I love the man.”
Fisher plans to continue working with BLM because he wants to continue preaching a message of “unity” even as his political stance has shifted. He wants to bring together people from all groups because “we’re stronger together as… one nation under God, indivisible…”
Key Takeaways:
