Americans are sick and tired of how the U.S. government is handling the illegal immigration crisis along the border. The flow of drugs and criminals along with the surge in human trafficking has people around the country worried about their safety and the future of the country.
Citizens from all areas of the U.S. have called on Congress to act and correct the situation. People feel like their cries for help have fallen on deaf ears as the border crisis only worsened under the Biden administration.
One Republican congressman wants lawmakers to back his proposed legislation that will put some teeth into a law to stem the tide of crime flowing across the border. He wants Congress to act and take a bite out of this plague that is undermining the fabric of society in the nation.
From Blaze Media:
United States Representative Vern Buchanan (R-Florida) introduced legislation Wednesday that would detain, deport, and permanently ban illegal immigrants convicted of sexual assault, according to a press release from the congressman’s office. If passed, the legislation would ensure that illegal immigrants convicted of sexual crimes are removed from the country and banned from returning.
Buchanan’s bill would “require” the federal government to detain illegal immigrants who have been charged with or convicted of sexual assault. Individuals convicted of these crimes would be “immediately deportable” under the proposed legislation and “permanently prohibit[ed]” from re-entering the United States.
Representatives Darrell Issa (R-California) and Byron Donalds (R-Florida) joined as original cosponsors of the proposed bill titled the Protecting Our Communities from Sexual Predators Act. Nonprofit organization NumbersUSA also endorsed the measure.
Buchanan didn’t hold back in his press release promoting passage of the legislation. He joined the voices of Americans who want a stop to the criminal activity caused by the border crisis.
“Illegal aliens who sexually assault and rape American citizens have absolutely no place in our society,” Buchanan stated. “Shockingly, illegal immigrants who commit sexual assault are not immediately deportable, which is why we need to pass this commonsense legislation to keep these deranged and dangerous predators out of our country and help protect our communities.”
The intent of this act is worthwhile, but it begs the question of whether it can garner enough support to pass in the House, much less in the Senate. Democrats have shown an open willingness to protect illegal immigrants no matter what crimes these lawbreakers have committed.
Republicans highlighted recent high-profile cases where American citizens have been violently attacked by illegal immigrants. These have included alleged rapes of a woman in an Englewood, Florida hotel room and another in Boston who was developmentally disabled. Some of the alleged suspects in cases like these have previous convictions for rape and some were easily released back into society by a judge.
Donalds stated that it is time to stop the actions of the Biden administration related to illegal immigration. He posted on X this week, “Americans throughout all corners of our nation are bearing the perilous consequences of Biden’s open border crime wave… These shocking & avoidable crimes must come to an end.”
Americans will have to wait and see if Congress has the teeth to take a bite out of Biden’s support of illegal immigration. So far, he is winning as almost 9 million immigrants have illegally crossed into the country since Biden took office. Another 1.8 million illegal immigrants were designated “gotaways” who were not apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents as they freely entered the country.
Key Takeaways:
- Republicans proposed legislation to deport and permanently ban certain illegal immigrants.
- Illegal immigrants convicted of sexual assault have “absolutely no place in our society.”
- Bill sponsor Rep. Vern Buchanan said “deranged and dangerous predators” must be banned.
