President Joe Biden didn’t hesitate to flex his newfound executive muscle. Right out of the gate, he signed a bunch of executive orders, mandates, memoranda, and other actions.
All told, he has now tallied 40 executive actions in his short time in office. This has created a backlash from Republicans, who worry that it’s a sign of how Biden’s administration will operate.
But the GOP isn’t about to let Biden overstep his authority.
In fact, 24 Republicans just supported legislation that would put a halt to one of Biden’s most controversial executive orders. Ever since it was signed, it has generated a windfall of criticism.
It involves blocking energy and drilling permits on federal lands, and Biden is already facing potential lawsuits. Many claim he can’t do this without congressional approval.
And that’s what those two dozen GOP members are saying (via Breitbart):
Twenty-four Senate Republicans backed Sen. Cynthia Lummis’ (R-WY) legislation Thursday that would prevent President Joe Biden and his administration from blocking energy or mineral leasing permits on federal lands without explicit congressional approval.
Lummis recently revealed the Protecting our Wealth of Energy Resources (POWER) Act of 2021.
Basically, it states that the President can’t block energy and mineral leasing on federal land without Congress’ OK. The Secretaries of the Interior, Agriculture, and Energy departments can’t, either.
Lummis believes Biden’s order will destroy states rich in resources, like Wyoming.
And this is where the POWER Act comes in, as she said in a statement:
The Biden Ban would be nothing short of catastrophic for western states that are already reeling from the decline in energy usage brought on by the pandemic and continued volatility in energy markets.
It’s a one-two punch that means disaster for energy jobs, families, and communities.
Through the POWER Act, Congress would reiterate that federal lands should serve not the whims of a radical progressive minority, but the needs of all Americans.
Among those supporting the bill are Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Tom Cotton (R-AR), John Cornyn (R-TX), Tex Cruz (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and John Kennedy (R-LA). Even Mitt Romney (R-UT) is on board.
But the support doesn’t end there.
The legislation will also get a boost from organizations like the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the America Petroleum Institute, and the American Energy Alliance.
The Republicans believe Biden’s “radical environmental agenda” will only hurt America in the long run.
As Cruz said on Thursday:
I am proud to support this legislation that will fight back against the Biden administration’s radical environmental agenda and help our energy industry thrive by supporting hundreds of thousands of blue-collar jobs, keeping household energy costs low for American families, and maintaining our energy independence.
And Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) stated simply, “We can’t let this happen.”
- 24 Senate Republicans are fighting Biden’s drilling ban.
- They claim the order should require congressional approval. And Sen. Lummis’ POWER Act would stop the President from barring energy leases on federal land.
- GOP members like Sen. Ted Cruz condemned Biden’s “radical environmental agenda.”
