The presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Joe Biden, has been accused of sexually assaulting a former staffer, Tara Reade, in 1993.
So far, the campaign has issued denials. But Biden himself has not addressed the situation.
Now, five people have come forward to corroborate parts of Reade’s allegation:
Reade’s late mother appeared to corroborate details of her account while calling into “Larry King Live” in 1993… Reade’s brother, Collin Moulton, confirmed to The Intercept that she told him about the alleged assault… Reade’s former neighbor, Lynda LaCasse, corroborated key details of Reade’s account in an interview published Monday…
One of Reade’s close friends, who remained anonymous, also confirmed to The Intercept that Reade had described the alleged assault… Reade’s former coworker, Lorraine Sanchez, also corroborated details of her account against Biden.
Why it’s Important:
When Christine Blasey Ford accused Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, of attempted assault, there were few who could corroborate her story.
Numerous individuals, named by Ford, openly admitted to not remembering the alleged incident or did not remember if Kavanaugh even attended the party at which the event occurred.
Despite these discrepancies, Democrats and the media widely reported the allegations and many encouraged America to believe Ford without corroboration.
The MeToo movement branded Kavanaugh as an offender. Possible Biden running mates like Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris, and Stacey Abrams have said we must “believe all women.”
Now, these same people are siding with Biden, expressing doubts about Reade’s story. Already many conservative voices have accused them of hypocrisy for believing allegations against a Republican, but not a Democrat.
- Tara Reade, a former Biden staffer, has accused him of assault.
- Five close associates of the woman corroborate parts of her story.
- Democrats who were quick to believe Kavanaugh’s accuser now appear unwilling to believe Biden’s, despite once saying they believe all women.
