President Joe Biden has committed numerous gaffes in the public eye during his term in the White House, and many have called for cognitive testing.
Recent polls have indicated that a significant percentage of Americans want someone younger as their leader, and even some Democrats have suggested that Biden is simply too old to run again.
His latest gaffe might not point toward age — but it may still upset the First Lady.
This week, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in Washington for the unveiling of their presidential portraits. Of course, the current First Couple was in attendance.
At one point, Michelle Obama introduces Jill Biden, and the room decides to give her a standing ovation.
But for whatever reason, her husband missed the cue. While everyone else stood and applauded his wife, the President remained seated. And this didn’t go overlooked by the attendees, either.
Conservative strategist Greg Price brought it the public’s attention with this tweet:

In fact, it was Jill Biden herself who noted that Joe had remained in his seat.
After the applause had died down, the First Lady looked toward her husband and had to say something. Laughing, she stated:
Joe — honestly, everyone stood but Joe.
Biden then finally cooperated and got to his feet, where he stood and clapped by himself for a while — which elicited more laughter from the audience. It certainly seemed just a little uncomfortable for the First Couple.
There have been rumors circulating about Joe’s cognitive state in 2022, and certain doctors – like former White House physician Ronny Jackson – have repeatedly said that the President isn’t 100% right.
Age could be a significant factor in future elections, too, as many have said former President Donald Trump is also too old to run again.
Surveys are showing that the majority of Americans are hoping for newer, younger elected officials, on both sides of the aisle. They also believe it might help the country’s world image as well.
In the meantime, though, Joe Biden can’t seem to avoid these little mishaps, none of which go ignored by social media these days.
Key Takeaways:
- First Lady Jill Biden received a standing ovation, and Joe Biden neglected to stand.
- Jill called him out on it and then the President finally stood and applauded.
- It’s just another very public gaffe that may suggest to voters that we need younger people in positions of power.
