Joe Biden just became President but people are already talking about possible candidates for 2024. Unsurprisingly, this includes former Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump.
But Biden may also have competition from the Democrat side as well. We’re hearing rumors about all kinds of possible challengers from the left side of the aisle, though of course nothing is confirmed.
The latest rumor is bound to get plenty of attention, however.
We probably won’t know for a while if Trump intends to run again, or who Democrats might want to see in the White House if Biden decides not to run for a second term.
But we do know that one of the most popular people on the planet is reportedly considering a run at the Oval Office. And if successful, she’d be the first female U.S. President.
Some have wondered if Ivanka Trump might run on the Republican ticket, and others think Hillary Clinton might even make another stab at the highest office in the land.
Nobody saw this coming, though.
She’s not a politician but she certainly has had her fill of politics, given her position in the world. Via The Daily Mail:
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly ‘networking’ with top leaders of the Democratic Party and mulling a run for U.S. president in 2024.
The report only cites an “unnamed British Labour Party official,” so we don’t have much concrete evidence at this point.
Even so, it seems the political world is “buzzing with talk about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential backers,” which really puts a fresh spin on the 2024 possibilities.
Markle is only 39 and has plenty of time to get more deeply involved in politics, and it seems unlikely she’d go straight for the Oval Office out of the gate.
That being said, Markle’s close friend and biographer, Omid Scobie, claims she “has her eyes set on the U.S. presidency.”
Scobie also said that Meghan “is the embodiment of the American dream,” and another friend told Vanity Fair in 2020 that the duchess would “seriously consider” a presidential bid (via The New York Post).
Remember, Markle still has her U.S. citizenship, so this is a possibility.
Obviously, there will be opposition to the idea. Some believe she has absolutely zero chance at all.
Andrew Morton, author of “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” said she has “no chance of ever running for president” because she’d be “eaten alive.”
Given the intensity and endless trials involved, she does seem ill-equipped to handle a run for President of the United States. She just has no experience in that world.
But Markle certainly does have experience dealing with public scrutiny, and she remains wildly popular in America and around the world.
If she does decide to go for it, though, she’ll probably want all the help she can get … and for the record, Donald Trump has already said he doesn’t like her, so it’d be really interesting to see Trump vs. Markle.
- Joe Biden might actually have competition from another Democrat for POTUS.
- It’s the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, who is supposedly “networking” with leaders of the Democratic Party.
- Markle retains her U.S. citizenship, and one of her biographers says “Meghan has her eyes set on the U.S. presidency.”
