In a turn of events that surprises nobody, we are finding out some troubling things about the Biden administration and the people he surrounds himself with in office.
Long-time White House adviser Steve Ricchetti is someone very close to Biden who served as the chairman of Joe’s 2020 campaign and now serves as Counselor to the President. Both positions are very highly esteemed as anyone might imagine.
However, we are now finding out that there is more to the story, and its not all as it seems with Steve’s family ties. His brother just so happens to be a lobbyist. And not for some noble cause like renewable energy, but for Big Pharma.
According to the disclosures, Jeff Ricchetti made a total of $220,000 lobbying the White House, executive agencies and Congress on health care matters. Ricchetti lobbied the White House on “oral vaccine development” as well as “drug pricing” and a proposed Medicaid rule from former President Trump’s administration.
Must be nice right?
His brother Jeff gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to push medical lobbying on the White House administration of which his brother is so closely trusted. It’s almost as if he got that position because of the close ties to Biden. We can’t say for sure because nobody is ever going to say that out loud, but it certainly makes you wonder. Is it purely coincidence?
Ricchetti claims that he does not lobby his brother directly in the Biden administration, but he didn’t provide too much more info than that. That’s a nicely worded (and very specific) statement likely provided to him by a lawyer if I had to guess.
Jeff defends himself by saying:
“I do not lobby my brother and I have not even mentioned to him the names of clients that I currently represent,” Ricchetti told CNBC. “For the better part of the last 30 years I have lobbied members of Congress and their staff, and various individuals who have served in the successive administrations. It is what I do for a living.”
All I know is that its not a good look. Having family with such close ties directly to the President and lobbying for Big Pharma is never going to come across in a favorable light no matter what sort of explanation you give.
Personally I’d love for there to be a lot of new laws around lobbying and especially if you have family ties to the administration you are trying to convince to do what you want them to do. That just seems like a no brainer to me.
How do you feel about this?
Do you think the Biden administration and Big Pharma are playing by the rules or do you think there is more here than meets the eye?
