President Joe Biden has already faced several big problems during his first few months in office. Overseas conflicts, jumping gas prices, and the ongoing pandemic are on that list.
But maybe atop that list is the southern border crisis. The Biden administration has been accused of doing very little to fix the problem and in fact, they’ve often claimed the crisis claims were exaggerated.
Now it seems as if those tasked with protecting our border are getting squeezed out.
While Biden hasn’t said he wants to dismantle the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, many prominent Democrat leaders have called for it to disappear.
And given the new information released by ICE this week, it would seem those Democrats are getting their wish.
Though the agency still exists, their scope of power seems to have dwindled considerably — almost to the point where they’re not able to do much of anything.
The statistics do appear very concerning on the surface, and they apparently show the effect of the Biden administration’s restrictions on ICE operations.
Via The Daily Wire:
President Joe Biden has effectively abolished the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency through heavy restrictions on its operations, ICE officers say.
ICE deportations numbered an all-time low last month with 2,962 illegal immigrants returned to their home countries.
Plummeting immigration enforcement is a result of new policies Biden implemented that restrict who qualifies for deportation and what actions ICE is authorized to take.
These numbers looked significantly different under former President Donald Trump.
But even more importantly, we’ve really never seen these numbers before. And we’re seeing them when the influx of migrants has increased by large amounts in 2021.
This would suggest that while more and more people are arriving in the country without permission, ICE is arresting and deporting fewer and fewer.
A Washington Post report revealed the following:
Under new Biden administration rules curtailing immigration enforcement, ICE carried out fewer than 3,000 deportations last month, the lowest level on record.
The agency’s 6,000 officers currently average one arrest every two months.
The article goes on to say that ICE is “an agency on probation.” In other words, it feels like they’re being so heavily restricted that eventually, they won’t exist at all.
Since Biden’s inauguration, unregistered migrants have hit a 20-year high and on the flip side, ICE’s operations have been severely hampered.
This sends a strong message to anyone who wants to break the law and simply enter the U.S. whenever they please. And this message seems to be, “come right on in, nobody is going to stop you.”
Obviously, some Democrats support this message.
But in regards to national security and simple overall stability of a nation, it’s difficult to comprehend. And if we can’t enforce any border or citizenship laws, then those laws will become extinct.
In many ways, it feels like they already are.
- ICE officers are saying the agency has been “functionally abolished.”
- Deportations and arrests have plummeted to the lowest on record. At the same time, undocumented travel has surged to a 20-year high.
- All the restrictions ICE faces today makes it apparently impossible for them to do their jobs, as some authorities are claiming.
