Does Joe Biden care about creating and keeping American jobs? It’s hard to say.
He did cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline and banned drilling on federal land. Those moves cost us at least 11,000 jobs.
Other possible plans for the future don’t look too good either. His “relief” bill has over $60 billion in taxes for corporations—which could lead to layoffs.
But he might only be getting started. A new Democrat bill could make current job losses look like a drop in a bucket.
From Western Journal:
The PRO Act, passed by the House of Representatives last month and endorsed by Biden this week, could obliterate as many as 57 million jobs…
While the aim of the legislation is ostensibly to stop employers from “misclassifying” employees for the company’s own cost-savings benefit, it would effectively throw millions of people out of work.
The PRO Act’s redefinition of freelance worker is so narrow that a worker can only provide a company with a freelance service that is outside its normal purview,” Polumbo wrote.
Joe Biden has voiced support for a bill, passed by the House, that could effectively put millions out of work.
The “PRO Act” essentially forbids all companies from hiring freelancers, unless they do something outside the scope of the companies normal business.
That means Uber can’t hire drivers as freelancers, but they can hire a janitor as one.
Democrats claim this will force companies to hire freelancers as full-time staff, so they can enjoy benefits like paid time off, etc.
But that’s rarely the case. Companies hire freelancers to save money. Small businesses and startups might not have the resources to hire many full-time employees. But they can hire freelancers when needed.
A similar bill was passed in California not long ago. It has killed off freelance work in the state.
Should this bill make its way through the Senate and is signed into law by Joe Biden, there is no guarantee the 57 million freelancers will be given employee status by their companies.
More likely, they will lose opportunities to work, income, and other resources to make ends meet. Companies will lose a valuable source of labor, unable to replace it.
This bill represents a massive blow to our country’s economy. Millions will lose their jobs and countless businesses will shut down.
We’ve already seen so much hardship thanks to lockdowns. Too many businesses closed their doors for good.
Does Biden want to shut down the rest of them?
- Joe Biden voiced his support of the House’s “PRO Act”
- The bill would outlaw freelance work, possibly putting 57 million Americans out of a job.
- California passed a similar law, which destroyed opportunity for many residents.
