Arizona was one of the ground zeroes for the 2020 Presidential Election.
Even now, a battle is on to audit and examine just what went on in November.
But the Republican legislature of the state never wants that to happen again.
And, following a few other states’ leads, they are striking a blow for election integrity.
Let’s see if Democrats like the taste of this.
From AP News:
Arizona House Republicans on Monday advanced a measure requiring election officials to give prosecutors records of mail ballots that get rejected because the signature doesn’t match the one on file…
Meanwhile, House Republicans also voted to raise the threshold for an automatic recount of an election to 0.5 percentage points. Under the current standard, recalls are triggered for most statewide races when the margin is fewer than 200 votes.
Democrats are already complaining about these two election bills.
The first aims to prevent fake ballots from being counted. Many votes are cast in AZ by mail.
That requires election officials to match signatures on the ballots, with ones on record.
But if they don’t… how are we to know those voting are really who they say they are?
This bill will require these officials to provide records to prosecutors, giving them enough material to conduct investigations.
Of course, Democrats don’t want this. Because it would make it very hard for anyone to cheat by mail, if investigators are checking signatures.
The other bill raises the threshold for automatic recounts, ensuring that only legitimate situations will require recounts.
Other states have been passing strict voter laws since the 2020 election. These are the same state legislatures who struggled to verify the 2020 Presidential election.
They faced intense pressure from Democrats and the media (the same thing) to just pass the election results, without proper investigation.
Many Americans still believe the results were tainted.
These changes, however, should protect our elections from future “irregularities.”
Do you think every state should pass these laws?
- Arizona House passed two bills aimed at securing their elections.
- The first requires election officials to hand over records to prosecutors.
- The second raises the threshold of auto recounts to 0.5 percentage points.
