After AOC And Ilhan Omar Get Arrested In D.C. – The Camera Catches Them Pretending To Be Handcuffed

In the days following the momentous Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling, protests erupted all across the country. The shockwaves of that decision are spreading everywhere, even to “mourning” employees.

Far-left politicians are also getting into the act, traveling to Washington D.C. to stand up for women’s “reproductive rights.” We’ve already seen some leftist officials get arrested for protesting.

The latest to wind up in handcuffs are Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Or rather, they might’ve been arrested — but they only pretended to be handcuffed.

On Tuesday, Supreme Court police had to lead AOC and Omar away from an abortion protest, which consequently blocked traffic. You have the right to protest, but not when it impedes traffic flow.

It wasn’t much of a surprise to see these two liberals among the protesters (also in the group was “Squad” member Rep. Ayanna Pressley).

But the “arrest” itself wasn’t the big headline: instead, what the camera caught after they were led away is what exploded on the internet. And that’s because it seems AOC and Omar were basically faking.

From Fox News:

Video caught Ocasio-Cortez walking away with a policeman holding her and another protester’s arms, smirking, with her hands behind her back in the typical handcuffs pose, yet she wasn’t cuffed.

At one point, she raised a fist to the crowd in solidarity, confirming she wasn’t being constrained.

Omar also could be seen in a video walking away from the protest with her hands behind her back in handcuffs pose, despite not wearing them.

This prompted immediate backlash online, especially on Twitter. Citizens, pundits, politicians, journalists, and other personalities all piled on, slamming the two liberals for their little stunt.

Here are some of the more popular posts:

The Washington Post’s Dave Weigel wanted to know “how stretchy are those handcuffs?” in a now-deleted Tweet.

Others said AOC now qualifies as a “criminal insurrectionist” who should be prosecuted and removed from office, a clear reference to the January 6 fiasco.

Just before the SCOTUS decision came down, there were warnings about a “night of rage” by left-wing abortion advocates, and we have seen a definite increase in protesting and pushback in recent weeks.

It’s also not uncommon for liberal politicians to get involved in such matters, especially these days. They’re more than willing to take to the streets, it would seem.

However, pretending to be handcuffed probably won’t win over a lot of voters, and does make people wonder: how much of this is just for publicity purposes?

Key Takeaways:

  • Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar were taken away by Capitol police after being involved in an abortion protest.
  • They were supposedly arrested, but the camera caught both of them without handcuffs on — even though both seemed to pretend they were cuffed.
  • This prompted immediate backlash all across social media.
