The feud between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been long documented. It appears Newsom fired the first shots after many California residents relocated to Florida. Newsom posted billboards and videos online criticizing the conservative state. He accused Gov. DeSantis of denying Americans’ “liberties,” even as California issued harsh COVID restrictions.
Gov. DeSantis struck back by criticizing California’s Democrat-majority government. He pointed to the state’s rising crime, massive exodus, homeless crisis, and fleeing businesses. Meanwhile, Florida’s population is growing. DeSantis challenged the Democrat to a debate. Newsom reportedly accepted. And now, Fox News is revealing the venue and date.
From The Post Millennial:
Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) will soon be duking it out on Fox News — the two are officially set to appear on TV for a debate moderated by network host Sean Hannity.
Newsom and DeSantis are scheduled to appear on Hannity’s 9 pm prime-time slot on Nov. 30, according to the network.
In a message issued by Fox, Hannity stated he is “looking forward to providing viewers with an informative debate about the everyday issues and governing philosophies that impact the lives of every American.”
Fox News revealed that Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis will be debating each other on November 30th. Fox News host Sean Hannity will be moderating the debate during his prime-time slot. The debate will address the widely varying policies of both governors.
Some had previously suspected Newsom would accept the debate, as a way to build his candidacy for president. He has since strongly denied his intentions of running in 2024–and has backed the Biden/Harris ticket. Newsom has also defended Hunter Biden, who has been indicted by federal authorities.
It was later revealed that Hunter Biden had previously contributed to Newsom’s campaign.
Newsom’s motives for attending his debate are unclear, given he is not running for office. Ron DeSantis is currently vying for the Republican presidential primary. This debate might help to boost his campaign, but the event will most likely focus on his leadership in Florida.
DeSantis has led the state through two hurricanes, silencing liberal critics in the process. He was re-elected by a 1 million vote margin in 2022. DeSantis has also been recruiting police from other states, promising a $5,000 bonus to those who move to Florida.
