The GOP primaries kicked off with almost a dozen candidates. But today, only two are still in the running. Donald Trump—who did not attend a single debate—is leading after winning Iowa and New Hampshire.
Nikki Haley has refused to drop out, with South Carolina the next state in the schedule. Polls suggest that, despite being her home state, Haley is behind Trump by double digits.
Trump has warned Republican donors that if they keep supporting Haley, they’ll be iced out of his campaign. A well-known liberal billionaire surprised Americans by giving to Haley’s campaign. This was his most recent decision.
From The Post Millennial:
Billionaire LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is ceasing donations to Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign, a person familiar with the matter has revealed.
Hoffman gave a pro-Haley super PAC $250,000 in 2023, despite mainly donating to Democrat-aligned causes in the past, but does not have any immediate plans to assist Haley’s campaign further…
Hoffman is one of the first wealthy donors of Haley to signal their exit.
Reid Hoffman is a mostly Democratic donor, who surprised the country by giving $250,000 to a Haley-aligned super PAC. The co-founder of LinkedIn said he believed his mission was to protect “American democracy.” He gave the large sum to Haley to prevent Trump from winning.
Hoffman may be ceasing to donate to Haley’s campaign, because of her recent losses. The Republican is trailing Donald Trump after the results of two rounds of primary voting. Word has it that other donors are starting to back out.
Three clients who worked with a fundraiser to bring in $100,000 each are now dropping out. Polls indicate that Haley will have a hard time defeating Trump in the upcoming states.
Haley, despite this, has vowed to continue running her campaign. She said the race is “far from over,” even as many Republicans flock to Trump’s side. Most recently, the head of the RNC has called on Haley to end her campaign.
Haley is arguably the last option for anti-Trump Republicans and independents. If she fails to gain steam in the next few rounds of voting, there is nothing stopping Trump from clinching the GOP nomination.
- Billionaire Democrat donor Reid Hoffman is ending donations to Nikki Haley.
- The LinkedIn co-founder has previously donated to Joe Biden and Democrats.
