THEPATRIOTJOURNAL.COM: An Educated Vote Is Your Civic Duty
An Educated Vote Is Your Civic Duty
I was listening to a local political radio show today and I couldn't help but become completely annoyed. The hosts were discussing with callers the campaign performances so far and strategies for the rest of the election cycle for Harry Reid and Sharron Angle. The discussion centered mostly on Sharron Angle's campaign missteps. I didn't mind the subject except for the fact that they left out the most important element, and that is the personal responsibility of every voter to inform themselves. A campaign is only a few months long, but a term in office for Senators is 6 years. Nevadans know what Harry Reid has done to them.
Harry Reid and Sharron Angle have been in politics for a few years and both have voting records. There is no excuse to not know how each one is going to conduct themselves in office and vote on the issues. Therefore, using that logic there should be no voters in Nevada waffling on who to vote for in this race. Undecided voters are simply people unwilling or incapable of doing their own analysis. If you don't know how to do the research, ask, there are plenty of people everywhere that do. The computer is your friend and has all of this information at your fingertips. If you do not have a computer, a library card is free and the library is stocked with internet research ready computers and books.
If it isn't completely obvious, I want Harry Reid to lose and Sharron Angle to win. That is because I am Conservative and Harry Reid is a leftist. We are on opposite ends of where we think the country should go. How anyone could want another failing term of Harry Reid I have no idea, but many people treat political campaigns like Hollywood reality shows. Meaning, whom ever performed the best gets the prize at the end of the show. I don't care how much money is spent or how well Harry Reid runs his campaign, there is no way I will vote for him, because of the issues. A campaign is a first date, a job interview, and an audition all rolled into one. It is not necessarily the true candidate, the best facade will be on display. Don't be fooled by slick productions and conveniently left out facts. Harry Reid has had years of experience pulling the wool over the eyes of the people of Nevada. The only way to make sure of who and what you are voting for is to find out yourself.
The apathy of the American people in general makes me want to vomit. Ignorance I can deal with, apathy I cannot. The stakes are too high and the corruption has gone on too long to allow us the luxury of not paying attention. Apathy has created the soap opera/reality show style of politics that we have now. Harry Reid alone has spent 11 million dollars on TV and radio ads so far. That is insane. In a presidential election hundreds of millions are spent. It has to stop. Television and radio ads should be banned. The candidates should only have broadcasted debates, face to face campaigning, and a sheet of paper to hand out that describes them and their views on the issues. That would force people to pay attention and do their own research. It isn't as easy as picking an "R" or a "D" anymore. Those two letters mean nothing in this day and age.
The next person that tells me "they are all the same" and are not going to vote, is going to catch my pent up wrath. They are all the same because we allow them to be. Barack Obama has a horrendous past with anti-American pastors and domestic terrorists whom all hate America to the core, but he was good looking and he would be the first black president. Everyone was so worried about the color of his skin to realize that he was going to be disastrous for the country. Stop generalizing when you haven't a clue what you are talking about and educate yourself. We have a duty to this country and to all that came before and after us. Freedom isn't free, every generation has to fight to for it. This is now more important than your children's soccer games or your weekday lineup of situation comedies. If we do not change the direction of this country there won't be time or resources for soccer games or anything else that we enjoy in life. If you think I'm crazy, read history, it has a nasty way of repeating itself.
Read the founding documents of our country. Study the writings of the Founders so you understand why they wrote what they did in the Federalist Papers, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Before that the Articles of Confederation. Find out why we have a bicameral legislative body, a President and a Supreme Court. Find out how government is supposed to work from the Founders vision, and how it has been corrupted and operated now. Realize that the purpose of government is to serve us, to promote maximum liberty, and to put down tyranny, not to steal from us and force unwanted entitlements on us. Not knowing what you are voting for, or not voting at all, is like leaving the keys in your unlocked car in the middle of the Democrat created and nurtured ghetto. But now it's not just a car at stake, it is everything that we have ever known, and what our descendants will ever know that is at stake. This is not the time to be ignorant or apathetic.
